The University of Maryland Baltimore campus got a sweet treat May 12 when E. Albert Reece, MD, PhD, MBA, acting president of the university and dean of the School of Medicine, hosted an ice cream social for all students, faculty and staff. A tradition at the medical school for the last three years, the ice cream social was opened up to all of UMB this year, and it proved to be wildly popular.
The ballroom of the Southern Management Campus Center was full to bursting throughout the entire two-hour party, with guests waiting to sample six different flavors of ice cream and tables full of toppings from traditional hot fudge and whipped cream to Oreo cookies and Gummi bears. For the students who have been enduring final exams all week (and the teachers who’ve had to grade them), it was a welcome and a chance for those who are graduating next week to say a final farewell to the campus and their friends and mentors.
