The University of Maryland Becomes Second Hospital in the U.S. to Perform a Full Face Transplant - Most Extensive Full Face Transplant to Date

The University of Maryland announced that a full face transplant, including double jaw and tongue, was completed today on a 37-year-old male patient. The 36-hour operative procedure took place at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center and involved a multi-disciplinary team of faculty physicians from The University of Maryland School of Medicine. Additional details regarding this procedure will be made available at a news conference on Tuesday March 27, 2012.
