Colin Mackenzie, MD, and Peter Hu, MS, Awarded Patent

US Patent Number 8,135,602 was issued on March 13, 2012, to Drs. Xiao, Hu, Seagull and Mackenzie. Its title is “Techniques for Delivering Coordination Data for a Shared Facility.”

The patent relates to a video-based platform for balancing the need to assist in providing efficient access to numerous different pieces of information against the potential loss of privacy related to such information.
 
The video platform was first developed 10 years ago and remains in daily use in the operating rooms to coordinate activities for co-located and remote clinicians in University of Maryland Medical Center general operating room suits and University of Maryland Shock Trauma operation rooms.
