Committed to “Greening” Internal Operations and Helping Partners Make an Impact
(Baltimore, Maryland) – Practice Greenhealth, the nation's leading membership and networking organization for organizations in the healthcare community that have made a commitment to sustainable, environmentally preferable practices, has presented its 2014 “Champion for Change” Award to Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (MD H2E) for their success in helping Maryland Hospitals green their day to day practices. This is the eighth year in a row MD H2E has received the award.

“Hospitals are community anchors and are often viewed as the economic engines of their cities and towns. Their mission, invested capital, and customer relationships bind them to their communities. Anchor institutions have the opportunity to lead their communities to increased environmental health, wellness, and stability through the demonstration of innovative and meaningful programs,” said Joan Plisko, MD H2E Technical Director. “MD H2E has a proven track record of success and has positioned itself as a key resource in local hospitals’ endeavors to become the ultimate leaders in environmental health practice.”

The Champion for Change Award winners have achieved success in greening their own organization and have also assisted others who are committed to improving their environmental performance.

In 2013, MD H2E facilitated and supported two Leadership Councils: the Maryland Health Care Sustainability Leadership Council (HCSLC) and the Chesapeake Food Leadership Council (CFLC); provided education and technical assistance through targeted seminars; collected baseline data with its first energy benchmarking survey; and catalyzed hospitals through dissemination of topic specific materials such as the Earth Day Eco Hospital Jeopardy game.

About MD H2E: Established in 2005, MD H2E engages hospitals and health care providers in becoming leaders in all aspects of environmental sustainability to ensure lasting progress and positive impacts on community health. By influencing positive change through networking, education, specialized support and recognition MD H2E has currently established itself as THE go-to organization for sustainability in health care in Maryland; no other program serves this role in this region.
