It was so popular last year that Dean E. Albert Reece, MD, PhD, MBA decided to continue the tradition of having an ice-cream social to welcome back students, faculty and staff to the School of Medicine. Nearly 400 people packed the MSTF atrium September 17 to enjoy City Beach's homemade ice cream, which could be topped with a wide-array of treats, from traditional hot fudge and whipped cream to more unusual additions such as Gummi-Bears.

For those who didn't get enough of a sugar rush from the sundae bar, there were also tables laden with cupcakes, brownies, penny candy and hand-rolled pretzels. Rather than give a speech, as he would at most receptions, Dean Reece chose a more casual approach, mingling one-on-one with the crowd and staying until the very end to greet all who wanted to meet and speak with him.

The dean's next event will be his annual State of the School Address, which will be held September 25, 2007 at 3pm in the MSTF auditorium, 685 W. Baltimore Street. A reception will follow in the atrium.
